Out now, Downtown 212's "Naive Love Song" brings old school New York house music vibes from Berlin
With their debut release, "Naive Love Song", Berlin's Downtown 212 bring a fresh take on old school New York house music vibes. A nostalgic bass line dances on top of lush Rhodes chords as carefree strings glide through the track, crescendoing to an ecstatic peak while the playful vocals bring a sense of vulnerable, naive love. Pairs well with backyard BBQs, chill picnics in the sun, or sweaty summer sunset raves.

Downtown 212 is Christophe Darbouze and Chris Apollo Lynn. Although they both lived in New York at the same time in the early 2000s, the duo met playing the same show in 2018 at Ohm, a part of Berlin’s legendary Tresor club. After they kept getting booked at the same underground raves and clubs, they realized they both had a passion for early house music, free jazz, and 80s funk, and decided to hop in the studio together. The result is a series of tracks they call “naive house”.
“‘Naive Love Song’ was created in 2019, the heyday of the before-time. It's a creation of the kind of house music that happens on the fly, without any care: basically it’s a naive attempt,” says Christophe Darbouze.
“Yeah, exactly. We try to take house music back to its roots before everything became so polished and perfect. We do things in one session and play as many instruments live as possible to give it an organic, spontaneous energy,” adds Chris Apollo Lynn.
The duo will be releasing music throughout the year.
